"The cow is the symbol of our country," tell us Luis, the shepherd; Anyone who slaughters a cow in Cuba can get up to 30 years in prison. This obsolete law from the times of Castro's revolution is one of the reasons for many questionable conditions on the island. Over the course of one hour, we follow in strong, atmospheric images the rural, seemingly romantic life of the shepherds and their animals with the most important political significance. Through the iconic meaning of the cow, the film draws the picture of a country at complete standstill. We learn about „cow mafias“,  the black market meat, about thieves and lovers. About the carnivorous tourists, and sleepless shepherds between hope and resignation. This, poetically weaved together into a portrait of man and nature.
